Advances and Challenges in Records Management in Organizations

Abstract

Records management is a key aspect of organizational efficiency and productivity. This article addresses the importance and benefits associated with implementing records management systems. It also reviews the main problems and obstacles arising in this type of initiative and how, internationally, a series of guidelines has emerged in the form of management standards to support organizations under a continuous improvement methodology. Particular reference is made to the most recent of these, the ISO 30300 series, which additionally allows an organization to demonstrate to its peers the adoption of best practice in the records field.
