The university, its practice and its objectives, have been the subject of public discussion for years. In this article we reflect on two main discourses that have played a central role in articulating what we know today as academia in Chile. The masculine and the managerial have given the university in Chile a particular character. In other words, the university has been constituted around a productivist activity that seeks its own optimization through efficiency and effectiveness. In that process, its political dimension has been rendered invisible.
