Resisting Intersectionality: Reflections on Racial and Gender Fatigue

Abstract

Intersectionality has gained ground as one of the most innovative and critical approaches to the study of gender and racial inequality, disadvantage, and oppression in organizations. However, tensions related to the current historical moment, characterized by multiple ruptures —particularly racial and gender fatigue— have led to questioning of the role and relevance of the intersectional approach. This piece argues that the post-feminist narrative, as well as the denial of racialized privilege, are central to the resistance against intersectionality. It discusses the impact of these narratives and reflects on the future of intersectionality.
