The Unexpected Kick-Off: Questions about the Future of Business Schools in Chile

Abstract

In this article I raise a number of concerns about the future of business schools in Chile. These questions arise from the current health crisis and the transformation it has triggered in labor relations and the organizational world. To that end, I begin by explaining the effects that the relevance-rigor impasse has had on the development model adopted by business schools in recent decades. I then argue that, while adopting this model brought enormous benefits in the past, today it is an obstacle to adapting nimbly to an unpredictable environment. Finally, I suggest that the pandemic should catalyze a series of changes in the way business schools understand their relationship with the human dimension.
